So I just finished this book The Secret Life of Cee Cee Wilkes by Diane Chamberlain. Can you say GREAT BOOK? I devoured it, not just read it casually, but DEVOURED it. By devoured I mean that I read it at every free moment I had and even added some not-s0-free moments here and there. That is the bad thing about good books. I can't stop reading them. I neglect my children, my husband, my dog and my daily chores to just sit and read. I don't get to read much anymore now that Miss Bug is busier, but when I find a good book, it's all over honey.
Flip the TV on to some craptv like Baby Einstein or Spongebob (God Forbid) depending on who is bothering me--and read, read, read. We're talking (here's the visual): I remain in my pajamas, glasses still on at 11am (usually put contacts in close after I wake up), coffee mug half-full with coffee still in it and -here's the clincher- teeth not brushed.
Breakfast dishes sitting on trays in the living room because it was easier than making everyone sit at the table. But the dishes are spotless because our furry companion, Carly, has already passed through and made sure I wasn't paying attention so she licked the plates/bowls clean. She probably loves it when I read. It's her signal to creep up and get a free waffle or bacon and eggs!
So, thanks Preppy Mama for the good read. It was great. And did you like Change of Heart by Jodi Picoult? She is my FAVORITE author of ALL time so far, so if anyone has read her and knows of any books similar, please let me know. I loved Diane Chamberlain's book, but she still was no Jodi........though I'll probably read another one by her because she is the closest I've come to 'crack' books.
I've got some other books to keep me going (read: neglecting) in the meantime, but if anyone has suggestions, I'd love to hear from you! I just can't seem to find the intensity of Jodi from any other author. And it doesn't have to be that much drama, I just like the suspense and realism of her novels. I have also read some great books by Joshilynn Jackson, so if you know who she is and know of other authors like her, let me know that one too!
PS Blogger is not letting me separate my paragraphs and it is making me mad, so bear with me!

Absolutely love this post! I have totally committed household neglect before while reading--lack of tooth brushing, cats, and all!
So glad you liked it. I also loved "The Bay at Midnight" by Diane Chamberlain and I devoured it in like three days. I did finish "Change of Heart" I will post on it this morning.
I'm a new reader from Boo & Hootie's Mom (love her!). I just devoured "The Senator's Wife" by Sue Miller. I was on vacation at the beach so I didn't have any dishes to do, anyway! ha! I love Jodi Picoult, too. And I also love older Anita Shreve books. (Her more recent books are getting a little too Danielle Steele-ish for me). My favorite of hers, and one of my favorite books of all time, is Eden Close. Happy reading!
Oooh, I am so excited to read that book and something by Jodi Piccoult. Right now I am in major neglect mode and staying up until about midnight reading "Virgin's Lover" by Philippa Gregory (Other Boleyn Girl) - she is incredible. I love historical fiction. If you do, you will enjoy her "crack" books tremendously - best high ever!
