Retail Therapy....

So excited to get out of the *dadgum (*southern term used instead of cussing for the 329445728th time)house. Hubby finally got home and I had to go and run errands. (Read: had to get the *F * out) I needed to buy a waterproof mattress pad for our bed.

Big Brother has been camped out in our room since he got sick and when I was arguing with him to try to go potty at 3am so that he didn't have an accident in our bed, I decided that yes, it is time to get a waterproof one.

We've got another kid in the house now (Miss Bug) and it's not like someone won't pee or spill something on our bed sometime in the future! Hell, it could even be me or Hubby that spills!

My intentions when shopping were to also look for new sheets for the guest bed. I didn't find any for the bed that needs them, but I did find some surfboard sheets and a blue and white seersucker comforter for Big Brother's bed! He loves them! I thought it would help to get him back in his bed because this is his last night in mine.

I swear, this Amoxicillin had best get its butt in gear and heal my baby boy because I want my life back!

I'll wash the sheets and comforter and put them on the bed and take a pic. It's going to be so cute and I'm glad he liked it! :) I swear, sometimes a girl's just got to have some retail therapy. It makes everything all better. Can I get a *woot-woot* for that one?

PS. I'm trying not to think about the fact that right now several of my good friends who I've not seen in ages are partying and celebrating and drinking themselves into a nice buzz (if not worse). And I'm supposed to be there. But, nooooooo. I'm blogging about freaking waterproof mattress pads. Humph!

Or So I Just THOUGHT....

we were going to Orlando.

When your kid wakes up at 1:30am with a 103.5 fever and you administer Motrin and then he immediately throws up in your cupped hands you begin to wonder if it is really worth it??? I was still thinking as I change his shirt that has puke on the arm (that didn't go into said cupped hands), "Okay. He is just reacting adversely to the fact that he just woke up and I gave him more meds. It just upset his tummy." So, he cries and cries. Breaks my heart. Then I wait a few minutes and let him calm down. Then I try again, more slowly this time, to administer meds again. It works. I'm still thinking we can do this.

Then he finally falls asleep at 3am. And that is when I hear his breathing. His lymph nodes/tonsils (whatever) are so swollen that they begin to block his airway. Yes, scary. This has happened before. He kind of alternates between breathing through his mouth and nose and it is like snoring but scarier and you can just tell he is having a hard time breathing. I laid there and just listened to him breathe for quite some time. I had been asking God to give me a sign, and that was it. You just don't mess around with the whole lack of oxygen thing, ya know?

Then Miss Bug wakes up at 5 fussing and I go put the Nuk back into her mouth. Then she's up for the day at 6AM. WTH?

At 6:30am, I called the resort where we had reservations and explained that I had called the previous day saying we might need to cancel, and now I know we need to because my son had gotten sicker. She cancelled with no problem. Full money back. Thank goodness. I can surely use that $200 for something else.

I then call the babysitter to tell her. I thought her phone would be off, but she answered. Poor thing. I told her to go back to sleep that we were not going and to call me later. She said she was sorry that my son was feeling so bad. She is wonderful.

Big Brother sleeps until 10:30am when I go and wake him up myself. He is burning up again, so I get Tylenol in him and he's just now finished 4 crackers. I've got to get the antibiotic in him but don't want him to throw it up. So, I just gave him 4 more crackers. The pharmacist recommended 12 hours between dosages, but that won't happen today. I need to get 2 full doses in there!

I also had to call the neighbors that were going to watch our dog. Geez, it's amazing what all you have to go through to make/cancel plans when you have a family, isn't it?

I'm going to pay the babysitter 1/2 of what we were going to pay her for her troubles. Does this sound reasonable? I had told her a couple of days ago that this might happen and she was here when I took Son to doctor, so she wasn't very surprised. What do you think?

Now I have a cute outfit, special deodorant, etc and no place to wear it. I texted my friends and told them I just couldn't come. Sometimes it sucks being a grown up and having to make mature, responsible decisions.

I did make plans to go see Sex and the City tomorrow possibly if Hubby will watch the kids.

Oh and BTW, Hubby, has been out of town since early Tuesday morning. He gets home this afternoon. I think I deserve at least that, yes?

I'm just saying...

PS. The pediatrician said it is unlikely that Miss Bug (7 months old) will get strep. He said it usually happens in children over a year old. Do we believe what he is saying?

Strep throat...

is what Big Brother has.......after 3240348393 minutes at the doctors office. I HATE going to the Drs. office. Prescribed penicillin. He slept from 2:30-5:00. I had to wake him up...

And yes, we're still going to Orlando. He'll be fine once his antibiotic kicks in.

Babysitter did great with Miss Bug (7 months old). I was THRILLED. Or should I say Miss Bug did great with Babysitter? :)

Help!

The plan is still on for us to go to Orlando tomorrow. I have doctor appt. for Big Brother today to see what is up with this fever. I hope we find whatever it is rather than it just being viral. I just get worried.

Here's the situation: I'm wearing a sleeveless ruched wrap top--so cute. I already got a little bit of deoderant on it somehow when I tried it on. HOW DO YOU GET IT OFF SAFELY? I don't want to wash it before we go. My deoderant--Secret Invisible Solid--says it is invisible, but it's not. I need some that is, and with a quickness.

So--
#1. How to get deoderant off black shirt safely?

#2. What deoderant is really invisible? (And I don't like that drippy stuff, but if it is what really works, then I'll do it.)

Random Thoughts

1. Why the hell do stamps keep going up? Just leave them there......now I have a ton of 41cent stamps that I'm going to have to buy 1cent attachment stamp. It is annoying. Back to the post office I go.....I know I should just have some 1cent stamps laying around, but I don't. (kind of like when you need batteries for your kids new toy and you don't have the right size)

2. I miss Katie Couric. She was on the Today show today promoting a cancer charity thingy that is coming up and I just miss seeing her--her outfits, her smile, her funny comments. She made it like you weren't necessarily watching a news show. It was that and more.

3. My son has a fever. We are on fever day #2. He pretty much has watched TV constantly since the fever ensued. We are supposed to be going to a wedding reception this weekend. I was planning on posting pics and everything. Now we might not be going.

4. The Blue Heron Beach Resort has a 72 hour cancellation policy. WTH? I called to explain the fever situation and that we wouldn't know until the night before if we would need to cancel. Nice woman said she understood, that she has kids, too. So she gave us 24 hour-ish notice. Now let's just hope he doesn't end up throwing up or something while we are there.

5. We even hired our babysitter to come and watch small children in the hotel while we go and party. I bought a new outfit and everything.

6. The resort even has a pontoon boat that you can take to the reception (read: you can be drunk and not have to drink and drive).

6. A good friend of mine who used to live here sent me a box of baby girl clothes--we're talking Gymboree, Baby Gap, Janie and Jack, Babystyle, Ralph Lauren--and it was like Christmas yesterday when I opened the box. So exciting.

7. I love baby girl clothes. They are so so so cute!

8. I still have not showered and should be because Miss Bug will be waking up soon. Don't want to. We probably won't go anywhere anyway b/c of #3.

9. I think I have gone over in my texting for my phone plan. I can't remember how many I have..either 250 or 500. If it is 250 then I have some texting issues, you think?

I could ramble on and on but now it is time to get on the phone and chat w/Suz...and the time-wasting continues. But I digress...

It's Time....

...to sell our house!
Seriously, it has been on the market since August--yes, August 2007--and I'm ready to go. We put it on the market early. I wasn't ready to go in August because I was pregnant and due in October. I needed stability then. I got it, thanks to the man above, and now I'm ready. As you all know, the market is very slow, but it must be at a snail's pace here in South Georgia.

Hubby buried St. Joseph this morning......and we're not even Catholic! Hubby grew up Catholic so I think it still counts??

In case you know someone who is looking to move our way, or you want to send someone away from you, we have a great house. It is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath. We have a great den, large dining room, hardwood floors, carpet in bedrooms, tile in bathrooms/laundry room. We have stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops in kitchen. We have a fence, large back yard, rocking chair porch and security system. Hell, I'll even give you the dog (Just kidding, Hubby). Our neighborhood has great sidewalks, a pool and basketball court.

We do like our house/neighborhood, it's just that we have to move--and into a bigger house! Oh, and one that is in the Northern Atlanta area. (We need a bigger airport for all of the traveling that he does.) Husband works from home and we don't have enough room for him, his work crap and us, too! We need an extra bedroom for an office, a playroom, something! Ohhhh, I'm DYYYYING for a playroom/bonusroom!

Realtor was supposed to have 2 showings this weekend and guess how many she had? Can you say big goose egg? She had 2 potential buyers call her to make plans and then she called them back practically all weekend and no response. What a letdown! I told her she should go ahead and have an open house.....hell, invite the neighbors in while the house is all sparkly clean for crying out loud!

Dog hair will be back today once I pick up Carly. Toys are beginning to spill out of closets. Laundry is piling up........so much for my tidy home. It was nice while it lasted.

So, send a buyer our way. Gnats are free....
PS. Our front door is now red and there pretty yellow Pansies out front.

Steven Curtis Chapman's Daughter Killed By Teenage Brother:

I received this email from a friend and had to share. PLEASE keep them in your prayers--how tragic:

By LINDA ZETTLER and KATE HOWARD
Staff Writers
May 22, 2008

Steven Curtis Chapman's youngest child died Wednesday evening after being struck by a car driven by her teenage brother in the driveway of the family's Williamson County home.

Maria, one of the Christian singer's six children, was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt Hospital, which confirmed the death, according to Laura McPherson, a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The 5-year-old was hit by an SUV driven by her teenage brother, she said. Police did not give the driver's name.

The teen was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser down the driveway of the rural home about 5:30 p.m. and several children were playing in the area, McPherson said. He did not see Maria in the driveway before the vehicle struck her, she said.

"It appears to be a terrible accident,'' McPherson said.
No charges are expected, she said. The accident was witnessed by two other children; the entire family was home at the time, McPherson said.
Singer/songwriter Chapman, who recently was inducted into Music City Walk of Fame, is one of contemporary Christian music's most recognizable and most awarded names.

He and his wife, Mary Beth, have long been supporters of international adoption, having brought three girls from China into their family. Maria was the youngest.

The couple is so active in the cause that they formed an organization, Shaohannah's Hope, to aid families wanting to adopt.
With his latest music tour, which came through Nashville in November, Chapman started a campaign called "Change for Orphans." He asked audience members at each stop to bring spare change to the concert, where it was counted and given to a local family to aid in their adoption process.
"I don't know of anybody who loves his children more than he does and is so committed to the adoption concept, and to lose one, no matter what the circumstances, is heartbreaking beyond all comprehension," said John Styll, president of the Nashville-based Gospel Music Association.
"He talks about his kids all the time. That's his life. His kids are more important to him than music, that's for sure."

The tragedy was announced during Wednesday-night services at Harpeth Hills Church of Christ, which the family attends. Maria had just graduated from the church preschool.

And word spread throughout the tight-knit Christian music community on Wednesday evening.
Styll got the news not long after Maria's death.

"I'm confident I can speak for everyone in the community to say we will do everything we can to support this family, as we would do at any time, but especially at a time like this," he said.

Most of the Chapman family was at Vanderbilt children's hospital after the accident and could not be contacted. The long, gravel driveway leading to the home west of Franklin was blocked off by Williamson County sheriff's deputies.

A Contest, A Contest...Pick ME! Pick ME!

My dear friend (who is also a fellow Gator Alumni) is having a contest on her website. So go check it out! You have to scroll down a little to see the post about the contest. She is an incredibly creative and fun person who I have known for a long time and who does a 'stand-up' job in every task she takes on! So, if you live in the area or know someone who does that would be interested in planning an event, she is your woman!

She says:

Mix Mingle GLOW Event Design & Planning, a Florida-based wedding and event planning company, is giving away a free event design and coordination package valued at up to $3000 to an individual planning to host an event OR a couple planning to be married within a 150 mile radius of Destin/Fort Walton Beach, Florida (the “Contest”) . Mix Mingle GLOW is a professional event planning company enlisting a team of the Gulf Coast’s premier wedding and event professionals, who together will design a custom, event for the Contest Winners.

And even if you aren't interested in the contest, per se, then just go see her website. She has the latest on the Jenna Bush wedding cake (which I knew nothing about--did you?), cool ideas for graduation parties and incredible photos of weddings/receptions, etc that she has planned.

If you win the party, let me know! :)

PS. Her website/blog is always on my blogroll so you can check her out there, also....

Movies in Review...

I have actually gotten to go and see a few movies in the past couple of weeks--some at home, some in the theatre. I was needing to GET OUT so it was good to do so! Being at home with smallish children for long amounts of time makes this mama a wee bit loco! Here's what I've seen and a rating...
Baby Mama: Cute, predictable, average, not as good as Knocked Up!. I did catch myself cracking up out loud a few times though. Would've been just as good on your home TV as it was in the theater. 3 stars out of 5

Forgetting Sarah Marshall: Stars Jason Segel and Kristen Bell; I wish someone would've told me that this one has full frontal nudity of a DUDE! (And he's certainly NOT ALL THAT to see.....now if it was Matthew McConaughey that would be a different story.) I was in shock and apparently the only person on Earth who had no clue that this was in the movie! It has some funny parts, but a lot of it is just tacky humor if you ask me (and this is coming from a person who thought Superbad was hil-freaking-larious). I would give it 2.5 stars out of 5. It was a compromise for me and the husband........he wanted to see Iron Man and I didn't. Definitely a rental if you are bored.......

The Good Shepard (home rental): Drama; stars Matt Damon & Angelina Jolie among others. It is really good, long and you have to actually watch it to really get it. It has a somewhat complex story line (meaning I had to has my husband what the hell was going on a few times). It is kind of hard to understand what the characters are saying b/c there are some strong accents (Russian) so we ended up putting the closed captioning on (like old people) to make sure we were getting it. I would give it 4.5 stars out of 5

Juno (home rental): starring Ellen Page and the dorky guy from Superbad.....I think I might be the very last person to see this movie. What can I say? It was great! Great music too! 5 out of 5 stars
(and yes, it is bothering me that Juno is on the LH side and the others are centered in the middle--I don't know how to fix it so if you do, comment to me and help me--it won't let me delete it either!!!! argh)

I thought we rented something else, but I guess that is it. It is rare for us to get to see so many movies that close together. My parents were visiting some of that time so we had a date night one night! I do love movie popcorn. It is so yummy! (Don't know why I got off track and onto the popcorn track---food and my one track mind!)

So, there you have it--MAPG's Movies in Review ....let me know if you've seen them and what you thought or if you have some other movies I need to see!

Package On My Porch

Remember the Paperly party I had a couple of weeks ago? I contacted the company and they sent a consultant here from Greeneville, SC so I could hostess a party. The stuff is amazing and SO cute and if I didn't have 2 young children I'd probably become a consultant because this stuff is something I really do love. Paperly sells Kelly Hughes Designs, Embossed Graphics, Dinky Designs, 3 Designing Women and a few more, but my favorite product they sell is what came in the mail today.....

My package from Boatman Gellar :

(even the stinkin' box is cool)

Here is mine (notecards)-fav color is red, always red--and look at how comfy-cozy the paper is nestled in the boxThis one is for my friend's daughter (sorry it is a bit blurry)-notecards again... I actually ordered these in gift stickers for my daughter!

These are stickers were ordered by another person at the party:
Another set of stickers ordered chocolate and light blue damask so cute (sorry for the blurry again, too excited to retake and then download onto computer!)

In my opinion Boatman Gellar is a bit pricey, but since I hostessed and got some 'free' money I ordered myself a set of notecards and a set of gift stickers. SO SO exciting! Now, if you happen to RECEIVE one of these oh-so-awesome cards from me, you need to know that you are dear and special to me because I don't spend $65 on a set of 25 notecards to send to just anyone!

I'm just saying....

Angels Watching Over Me...

A BABY'S CONVERSATION WITH GOD

A baby asked God, 'They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?'

God said, 'Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you.'

The child further inquired, 'But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy.'

God said, 'Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy.'

Again the child asked, 'And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?'

God said, 'Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak.'

'And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?' God said, 'Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray.'

''Who will protect me?' God said, 'Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life.'

'But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore.'

God said, 'Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you.'

At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, 'God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel's name.'

God said, 'You will simply call her, 'Mom.'

Happy Mother's Day to all you 'angels' out there....

1-800-I-DON'T-THINK-SO

The phone rings this morning and I look at the caller ID. It is a 1-800 number. Normally I don't answer these, but I just hit the 'talk' button. Don't ask me why. I think I just wanted the phone to stop ringing so I could drink my coffee in peace before it got cold. I say, "Hello?"

On the other end I hear this woman hurriedly announce her name and ask if my name is Karen M#$#%*n? I say yes and then she says "Blahblahblahblahblah you owe $24,900 blahblahblah." WTH? I almost dropped my coffee mug.

As I pick my chin up from off of the floor I say, "Excuse me?"

Then she repeats slower saying, "You owe $24,900 in student loans."

I say, "Ummm. No I don't."

She says, "Is your name Karen M%#$#$n?"

I say, "Yes, but it wasn't when I went to school."

She says," Was it Karen L##%#$?"

I say, "No. It was Karen F#%d."

She then asks for my date of birth. I give it. Then she asks for the last 4 digits of my social security number. (I don't think so.) I told her I didn't feel comfortable giving her that. Then she asks if she can have my address so that I won't receive any mail from them in the future. I start to give it to her and then don't finish.

So, what is that about? Just because my name is Karen M#%##n doesn't mean that I'm your Karen M$$%n !!!!! I have a VERY common last name. I think there are 4 of them in just the small town that I live in, so there have to be a ton out there.

It really rattled me. I think I had heart palpitations. Seriously.

Now had it been a credit card company saying I owed that much to J Crew, then that's a different story. Just kidding, honey! (Husband reads my blog. Don't want him to have a heart attack.)

New Pants + New Shoes = Happy Girl

Went to TJ Maxx over the weekend and found some cute shoes. Love it when you are just browsing, see a pair of shoes, toss them on the floor to slip your foot into them and WALLAHHH...they fit perfectly and make your foot look teensy and cute. Yes, purchased thankyouverymuch. (but looking at this picture makes me look like I have 'troll' feet?! WTH?)
Then went to the Outlets today while Big Brother was at school--it's the only decent place to shop sometimes around here sadly enough to say. I do love a Gap Outlet because I can usually find something for myself even if it is just a stretch T and if not, they always have something for the kids. I found some cute cropped seersucker trousers. So stinkin' cute. They fit perfectly, so yes, they are now part of my wardrobe. Not sure what shirt to wear, but will find something I'm sure, even if it is just a nice white T-shirt.

I also bought a bright blue short sleeve sweater. Trying to branch out from the black and white t-shirt collection that fills my closet. I just love a black shirt. It is perfect. Matches everything - especially my overabundance of JCrew flip-flops. This sweater will look good with one of my 14 pairs of khaki capri pants.

Once again, a happy girl is a shopping girl..
BUT I do have one gripe. What the hell is up with all these shirts being so freaking tight and long/narrow? Maybe I'm needing to admit that I'm getting older and need to do some department store buying, is that it? Seriously? I'm only thirty freaking five. But I swear, I'm always having to buy a XL many times and I'm not a big person. Yes, like I said, I do have somewhat of a large chest 34DD (I know TMI) but that doesn't mean that my body is an XL! Doesn't the media even advertise that the average size of a woman is a 12? Well, if that is the case, then she'd probably wear a freaking size XL too!!!! And if she is the average, then shouldn't she be a size M or L in a shirt just to put her in the 'middle' of the sizing chart? It really is pissing me off. And no, I don't wear really tight shirts because I think that it is trashy and it shows my back-fat. But I won't get started on that one.

And the 'built in shelf bra' my ass....

I never in my life thought that buying pants would be easier than buying a shirt. And I'm 5 foot 2 1/2 inches, so it's not like I fit into the 'regular' size. I usually get the 's' for SHORT.......and I'm okay with that. Maybe they need to start coming out with Tshirts that say your size and then 'B' for Boobs.........hhhhmmmmmmmmm. Or maybe I just need to get the breast reduction I continue to think about. It's only a matter of time before I break down. But I digress.

Possibly House Shopping?

It's been a while since I've been able to post. Husband has been out of town and I've had NO time to myself. I am NEEDING it. Big Brother scraped his knees on the concrete which I'm sure was painful but damn, he was a drama queen. On and on and on. I'm sure what he was thinking the whole time was, "It's a 4 year old thing, Mom, you wouldn't understand." I had to cut off the part of the band-aid that was flapping in the wind and he kept telling Daddy that I cut his boo-boo. I told him I didn't cut the boo-boo, but the band-aid, and he said, "Mommy, you aren't listening." Who does this kid think he is anyway?

Anyway, our realtor called to see if we could show our house on Wednesday morning this past week. OF COURSE she calls when Hubby is gone so I can do all the cleaning all by myself. With 2 small children behind me un-making the bed (I mean peeing in it), dropping food on the floor and making a mess in general. I asked her if she and my husband talk and make a plan to show the house while he's gone. She said yes. And that's why I like her. Because she is funny. And with the way the market is right now, you have to have a sense of humor. I'm just glad we are getting some looks right now.

With that being said, I have some questions for you Altanta area ladies. What are the good areas to live in between I-75 and I-85 north of Atlanta? Husband has us looking at Canton and Cumming mostly, but I also want to know what areas you guys like. Like what is near great schools and great shopping. That is my list. HA. Only two things. No, but really, schools are very important to us. And we do want to get the most bang for our buck as far as houses are concerned. So if you even know of neighborhoods that have nice homes and a great community feel (playgrounds, pool, etc), then I'd love to hear the names of them so I don't go in blindly.

So, help me out. Talk to me. Lemme hear your advice on the best schools, Target shopping centers , etc...and if you want to email me rather than comment b/c you are afraid of the freaks that stalk blogs, then my email is hikinco at bellsouth dot net.
Thanks!
