Bakugan Brawlers!

My son is wanting THESE!!!! Are you familiar? Are you all too familiar? These are the hot item this Christmas. My son wants them...specific ones too. I've tried all over--Target, Wal-Mart, ToysRUs, Amazon, Ebay, etc. & they are sold out. I mean 100% out of stock! I can't believe it! He's been into these for a while and I remember being able to just pick one up at Target, and now they are selling on Ebay for twice the price! If I'd have only known! I could be making a killing off of Bakugans!

Here is THE one....Serpenoid. You seen it? You have it? Want to sell it to me? :)
These are little balls that when placed on their special magnetic baseball-type card, pop out into these beings. There's a game to it, but he doesn't know anything about that. He just likes these little things. (And his sister LOVES putting them right into her mouth!) They are the size of a large gumball. Or you can get the 2 inch ones, but he doesn't want those.

This is Centoipod (or something like that). He wants that one too. So, I'm off to rummage through the stores again. I keep telling myself I'm not going to give in to Ebay and buy it.

I can't believe I'm old enough to
#1. not want that 'hot' item from Santa, and
#2. have a child old enough to want that 'hot' item!

It's crazy! It's on his list to Santa, and Santa can do anything, right?

Funny Tuesday

Last night while lying in bed with Big Brother we had the following conversation:

Big Brother: I think my teeth are getting loose like Grace's.

Me: You do?

Big Brother: Yes, feel them.

I feel them.

Big Brother: You think they're going to fall down?

Me: I don't think they are going to fall down anytime soon. But one day they will.

Big Brother: And then big, huge teeth are going to live there.

Me: Yep.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink it.

Or you have our version in the Plaid household:

You can force medicine into a 4 year old's mouth, but you can't make him swallow it.

He will have you wearing it if you try.

Lesson #543549584 learned, thankyouverymuch.

Busy, Busy, Busy

I'm so sorry I've not been around! I've had several things on my mind to post about, but then reality sets in and I'm off to do something else. Lately, I'm a little 'twirly' my friend likes to call it. I guess it is hyper and stressed at the same time, possibly is the way to explain it? I have so much on my mind, the biggest being big brother's tonsil surgery on Monday. It is just weighing very heavily on my mind. For some reason I've just been overboard in letting us have fun and do stuff because I feel like he's going to be down and out for so long that I want to make it fun now.

I even gave in and just off-the-cuff bought him the Diego Halloween DVD at Target. I swear that place is like crack. It is so addicting. I could've just spent and spent and spent. Bought Miss Bug some cutie pie socks and found some cute shoes but not in her size. Will be buying them online thankyouverymuch. Then bought a light-up spiderweb for outside so we aren't lame-o's!!!

For some stupid idiotic reason I have decided to be into making the kids costumes this year. It is just easier that way. Big Brother wants to be Wall-E. In the catalog he's $54.99. I.don't. think.so. Now if only I can make a cardboard box not look like a cardboard box but like Wall-E, we are in shape!

Since we call Babygirl Miss Bug, I thought she'd be DARLING as a ladybug! She's just little and it's so freaking HOT here that I can't buy her costume. I don't want her throwing a fit, pulling at her clothes and burning up. Would not make a pretty picture.

So what does my dumb a$$ do? I go to JO-Anns. I find the ladybug pattern. I go to the correct bin to purchase it. Nope, not there. I call my mother, panting, hyperventilating. Sewing IS NOT NOT NOT my thing. It scares me to death. I can't draw a straight line with a freaking ruler, so please don't put me behind a needle for heaven's sakes. I tell my mother that this place is freaking me out. She says no worries that she'll bring her sewing machine and we'll do something simple. I'm all about simple. I've got a red onesie, black material, a head band, etc. I'm on it. Miss Bug is only going to be 1 year old for crying outloud. This means she'll go to maybe maybe half a dozen houses..probably just my friends/neighbors, and then she's done. finished. over. it.

So here I am rambling again. I guess I needed to let all this out.

My parents are coming over the weekend to help out with Big Brother's surgery. He has no clue. I think it's best that way, but it is weighing heavily on my heart. Poor little guy. He has no freaking clue. Hubby and I have decided he 'works' better that way. He's such a trooper. I told my mom that she has to be the strong and rational one during surgery. I told her I'm the one allowed to be twirly, she's not. She has to be the strong, he's-just-fine-I-promise person. This is Daddy. He is the stable one. He is the calm one.He is the easy-going one. He's the one going to be out of town. We knew this when we planned it, but I am coming to regret it a little. I know we'll be fine. It's just that he's my rock. He really is...always makes everything okay. But he has to travel that week. And so we asked my parents. My mother is WONDERFUL with my son. They ADORE each other. He likes her better than me! :) I guess that's what Grandma's are supposed to be for, right?

And Miss Bug's birthday is October 18th so you know I found the perfect invites........it's not a big party. But the invites must be as stinking cute as she is, you know? I'll post them soon, I promise. Must get camera ready, etc.

Ok. Have to finish the cupcakes I baked for Big Brother's class because they learned about the letter 'c' this week. And am putting candycorns on the top.......another 'c' word. So clever I am!
And then must watch debates..........which is a whole new post, if you know what I mean!

Buzz Cut for my Baby!

So this is what Big Brother looked like last week before his hair cut (Yes, it was a little long, but that was why we were getting it cut!): Here he is yesterday with his new haircut on the first day of Pre-K:
I like to call this one his 'model' pose (Doesn't he look like he could be in an ad for a department store or something?):
His hair is too too short, the shortest it has ever been and it is making me sad! I did tell the lady I wanted it a little shorter, but damn lady, not a freaking BUZZ CUT! He looks all military instead of my little preppy man! Very sad for the Mama.

It's a good thing it grows back because I'm not cutting it like this ever again!

First Day O' Pre-K

(Did you get that the title can be a rhyme?)

It's been too long since I've blogged. My parents have been here and we have been busy! Big Brother started school yesterday, first day of Prekindergarten. I used to teach pre-k in the exact same room where he is going, so it is a little bittersweet to see him in there. I taught part-time preK and put him in the 2 year old room at the little church preschool where he attends. He has been great. I'm waiting for the meltdown, possibly this afternoon or tomorrow afternoon due to Mamaw/Papaw time and late bedtimes.

I will post a pic when I download them. I got his hair cut and it is TOO short! I didn't realize how short she would cut it and how different he looks with it cut! I'm glad it will grow back, and quickly.

Big Brother also got a V-Tech Cyberpocket game. It is like the Leapster I guess. He has been asking for the Wall-E video game for a while and since the poor boy's birthday is 2 days after Christmas, it is hard to wait! I've decided to institute the 1/2 birthday next summer. It's really hard when your birthday and Christmas are 2 days apart! LAME!

That's all I've got for you today so far. Still addicted to Facebook, but specifically to this Word Challenge game. It is SO cool! And it challenges my brain. And I hold the higher score and beat my husband. That is what is most important. He is the most competitive person I know, so this victory feels great. Ya Know?

Photo Lesson #1

I am sitting in, what we so affectionately refer to as the 'pit' (AKA closet where our computer is located), and I see Big Brother walk into the room and place himself on our new scale (of which I didn't purchase) . In case you are wondering, the 'pit' is connected to the master bath.

Then I ask him what he is doing, and this is the face I get (as he remains on the scale):
I asked him to come closer so I could take a pic of him on the phone and he kept getting too close. You can see my foot in the corner trying to hold him back!
Then he stops giggling for a brief moment to tell me that he is on the phone and that he is very busy:
And yes, he is wearing his robe over his clothes.......yes, he was dressed...and before noon, too! (Check out the new lizard watch of which he doesn't know how to tell time from)
The he takes 'pictures' of me, saying he is going to "tecked message" the pictures to Mamaw. (You think I text too much? Or talk on the phone much?)

He is so funny! And this is why when he comes into our room at 2AM because he is scared of the dark, that I just snuggle him right in......he is too much!

Just Because

I always post pics of Big Brother, but here is one of Miss Bug. I thought that I wouldn't post pics because I was afraid of freaks out there, but I feel like I know so many of you and want you have a visual of who I'm talking about.

Here she is in all her glory....now you can't tell me she's not the cutest thing you've ever seen other than your own, can you?

What a look of determination in her eyes. We are in trouble once she becomes mobile. We're also still waiting for hair so I can put some cute bows in it! Happy Belated 4th!

Chillin'

Life is good. Big Brother is gone with Daddy to watch fireworks. Miss Bug is supposed to be going to bed but all I hear is her banging around in her crib. And I am sitting with Daddy's laptop and watching CrapTV--TV's Sexist Doctors Of All Time. You can always count in E! to give you craptv that you love. I think it will be Patrick Dempsey. Will let you know if I'm still posting by the time this is over.

I will leave you with a 'funny' for the day--a conversation with Big Brother:

Me: Big Brother, it's rest time (sounds better than the dreaded nap word). Remember, if you want to go see fireworks then you have to lay down for a little while.

Big Brother: But can I just watch one more show?

Me: No.

Big Brother (Under his breath): Kill joy.

I WAS CRACKING UP! The 4 1/2 year old can use in context.......
Can anyone name the movie this is from?

I'm off to shop on Ebay and Etsy. Just bought some cards custom made by Sara and Abraham--if you are interested in her stuff which is oh-so-cute, click on her name on my blog roll.

Everybody BE SAFE! I don't want to read any posts about small children and fire!

PS. It was George Clooney who was the #1 sexiest TV doc. Patrick Dempsey was #2. I'd probably have to agree..........no?

Potty Mouth Plaid Girl

My sister-in-law brought her two sons to visit today while we are at Mamaw/Papaw Camp 2008. My dad, who was labeled as a 'Super Guy' by my 6 year old nephew, was willing to entertain. He has a workshop with all kinds of trinkets, etc, so the boys had a ball. Three boys--2 of them 4 years old (my son being one of the 4 year olds), and then the 6 year old--were in Papaw's Workshop. My sister-in-law and I watched Miss Bug while they played out there for a while.

When Miss Bug went down for a nap, we rode the golf cart around to the different barns to visit the animals. We were visiting and feeding the goats when they began to sneak out from under the gate. I went back to the barn to get some more feed to put in their trough so that I could herd the goats back into the fence.

When I got in there, all of a sudden the big black goat was jumping up to look into the barrel of feed. So here's this big ol' goat practically jumping on me! It scared me to death and I yelled, "Shit!" It was just the automatic response coming out of me. The 6 year old nephew and my son were outside sitting in the golf cart while random goats roamed about, but the other 4 year old nephew was in the barn with me. He is the fearless one. Needless to say, he heard me and immediately yelled, "Shit!" My sister-in-law about fell over. She ran over to him and told him he was NOT to say that word ever again and that Aunt Karen shouldn't have said it.

I felt horrible and apologized and told my nephew that I shouldn't have said it. I said to my sister-in-law, "He's never heard that before?" She said no. Woops. I truly don't think my son has ever heard that word before either, but anytime he does hear a new word, he's never immediately tried it out!

It was pretty funny though. Maybe my son is saving it in his mental Rolodex and will pull it out sometime at church or in public somewhere. I guess we shall find out, eh?

Caved in...

ended up getting the Matchbox Pop-Up Adventure Set--Shark Escape--at the freaking expensive toy store! Called Wal-Mart. It wasn't there. Called KB Toys. Wasn't there either. Those are the only other places in town with toys except for the expensive place.

So. Yes. My dumbass went to expensive toystore and bought toy for child. He was THRILLED. I got a break. He went to bed early. All is well in our household.

Amen.

Now if only Miss Bug will not wake up 42 times for me to get her pacifier back into her mouth. She is a pro at pulling it out. Not so much at the putting back part. Must work on that. Any suggestions other than some duck tape? I swear if someone could think of a safe way to keep a paci in a child's mouth, they'd be a gazillionaire.

Shark Attack Rescue Center

...is supposed to be at Target so when I went there I'd only have to make ONE trip today. I told Big Brother if he behaved all day that he'd get it. Such a bad Mommy I am sometimes. You aren't supposed to do this bribing thing; well, at least only sometimes, and I've done it too much lately. But what is a Mom to do when Daddy is out of town and I need a freaking break?

So I decided to run my errands at Target (AKA Hundred Dollar Store) and it wasn't there!

I guess I'm off to Wal-Mart later to see if it is there. If not, I'm up shit creek because I'm not going to that expensive toystore on the Island and paying $9 more for it. A girl has her limits.

I'll let you know as the saga continues....

Operation Toe Nail Fairy: Complete

So Big Brother has issues with anyone clipping his toenails or even touching his toes for that matter. He has been this way since he was little (he's only 4 though for cryin' outloud, but its gotten worse. He'll let you cut his fingernails, but NOT the toes. If I even get close to his toes, he says, "Mommmmyyyy, don't cut my toenails!" The only time we ever get to touch the toes is when we are putting on his socks--which he now sleeps in EVERY night and if you forget you will get reminded sometime --it may be 5 minutes after he goes to bed, or it could be at 3 in the morning when he awakens to find out that we forgot them and trot to our room announcing that we forgot and he needs them on. Yes, I don't know HOW, but he actually wakes up enough to realize there are no socks on his feet, gets out of bed, and walks to the other end of the house in pitch dark to our bedroom to inform us of our wrongdoing. How 'bout you put 'em on your own damn self then is what I'm saying???!!!!

So a month or two ago, it was time to cut the toenails. I was showing him how much it didn't hurt to get your toenails trimmed. We were visiting the grandparents. So I cut their toenails, my 13 year old cousin's toenails, my 3 year old cousin's toenails, my own toenails, his 4 month old baby sister's toenails, etc. I even bought him a $10 toy and set it in front of him and told him, "As soon as you let me clip your toenails, you can open this." He stared a HOLE into that toy box, but nope, no toenail trim.

My mom, in passing, just said, "We should do it while he's sleeping." DUH. Yes, she's a genuis. I told her that, too. And then asked what other tricks she had up her sleeve that she needed to share to help me out. She said she couldn't think of any more, but that if another occasion arose like this one, that she'd probably remember again and help me out.

So, that night we went in the bedroom while he was sleeping, clippers and flashlight in hand, and cut those suckers. He didn't even flinch. The next morning he awoke to a note from the Toe Nail Fairy attached to the $10 freaking toy saying, "See-it doesn't hurt when you get your toenails cut. I did it while you were sleeping!"

He was thrilled that he got to open the shark matchbox toy rescue thingy. I asked him if he saw the Toenail Fairy and he said, "Yes." I asked, "What does she look like?" He said, "She looks like a Mary. Kind of like the tooth fairy."

Kids, I tell ya.

It was time again to do it because his damn toenails were starting to curl around the toes, so I went in the other night. He wiggled around and then finally woke up and I just told him that I was making sure he had on socks that I thought I forgot them.

Tonight I drugged him, ahem, I mean I gave him some much-needed nighttime cold medicine, and then went in again. Got 'em girlfriends.

And there you have it. Mission accomplished. But this time I'm not leaving any freaking note...because all I need is for him to have yet another reason he needs a new toy. We'll just see if he notices!

Sleeping with the Mamaw

We are visiting Mamaw and Papaw and when we do, my son likes to sleep with his Mamaw. They are very close and he adores her....it is quite endearing.

Well, last night he woke up and told my mother, "Mamaw, please turn that a'way when you sleep." So, my mom said, "Okay, honey, whatever you need," and rolled over. Well, she must've scooted closer to him again because he then woke her up in the middle of the night and said, "Mamaw, I told you not to sleep in my face!"

Can you say bad breath, Mamaw?

(Mamaw would DIE if she knew I posted this...hee hee-shhhhhh!)

Attitude Wednesday

In the car Miss Bug (babygirl) is cooing and gurgling and 'talking' and my son is annoyed. Here is how the conversation went:

Son: Mommy, Bug is too loud.
Mom: Honey, that is just her talking.
Son: Mommy you need to change her out-of-tude.
Mom: I need to change her what?
Son: Her out-of-tude. She has a bad one. And when I have one you tell me I need to change mine or I can go to my room.
Mom: Sweetheart, that is just how she 'talks'. She has to listen to you when you talk, so you get to listen to her when she talks.
Son: Nevermind Mommy....

A few moments of FREE TIME...

You never know when you are going to get them...teensy moments of free time. I gots some right now girls.....all children are asleep (so I only have 2, but feels like a load sometimes) and hubby is watching the TV.

A funny for the day--Son had a bad aim today (waited too long to go to potty) and so I told him he is going to have to start cleaning up after himself. So, he got some toilet paper and I didn't see or hear him for several minutes. I asked him what he was doing and he said, "Momma, I'm wasting my time." I repeated it, but said, "Oh, you are taking your time?" and he said "Yes, that's it." AHH HHAAAA

OK one more b/c I have free time--the other day I asked Son to help me do something and he said, "Any problem. " I said, "Do you mean 'no problem'?" And he said, 'Mommy, it's not a problem, so it's any problem." I tried to explain that that is what 'no problem' means, but not sure if it went through...SO funny. That is one of my favorite stories so far. I swear 4 year olds can be HIL-ARRRR-EEE-OUS!

PS. Happy 10th Anniversary, Hubby! WE MADE IT! I look forward to many more...
